  • Bothered by flies?

Why do we have flies?  I mean, what purpose do they serve in the great scheme of things?  They are such a nuisance, right?

I have noticed that they seem to have a great presence around garbage cans, their personal feeding and breeding grounds.  So, what can we do?  You may choose to take them on with your trusty fly-swatter…smack…smack…smack!!  There, now they’re all dead!  But what happens if you go back an hour later?  More flies!  Now they also hover over the bodies of their fallen comrades.  You have to get tougher, so you spray around your garbage can with DDT, which kills all the flies and half your neighbors.  What happens within a short time?  That’s right, the flies are back!  Nothing will get rid of flies permanently.  There is only one thing to do to keep the flies from your garbage cans…put out clean garbage cans.  Flies will still come by, but since there is nothing there for them to eat, they will continue on their way.

Fine, but what has this to do with Chiropractic?  Just this: The reason people get sick is the same reason flies seek out garbage cans, because they are in an “unhealthy” state.

Think about this for a minute.  Why is it that two people eating the same foods, working at the same job, and living similar lifestyles can respond so differently to a virus or bacteria?

This question has sparked much controversy.  In the 1800’s, a continual battle raged between Louis Pasteur, the father of the germ theory of disease, and his former professor, Claude Bernard, the noted French physiologist.  Pasteur believed that the germ caused disease; the seed so to speak, of all disease.  Bernard, on the other hand, declared the cause of disease was the soil, not the seed.  More specifically, Bernard said, “Illnesses hover constantly above us, their seeds blown by the wind, but they do not set in the terrain unless the terrain is ready to receive them.”  He saw that a weakness of a person’s defense (neuroimmune) system would allow organisms in the environment to take hold.  Whereas, someone in the same environment, with a fully-functioning neuroimmune system may easily resist those same organisms.  Their disagreement as to the cause remained quite bitter until Pasteur, on his death-bed, admitted that he was wrong, declaring, “Bernard was right, it is the soil, not the seed.”

The only sensible approach to health is to keep your body functioning at its optimum level.  How…?  We’ll see what the medical profession has to say about this in the next issue. Stay tuned!

  • “Give Me 100% Chiropractic!”

Why would YOU want a 65% doctor?

In a world where it has become a nearly impossible challenge to find anything in its “pure” form, why should Chiropractic be any different? Think about it for a minute. In my youth, there were no small bottles of water everyone carried with them. We had no problem finding fairly pure water.

Carry that through to the air you breathe, the food you eat and it becomes apparent that “purity” is a truly rare commodity in today’s world. Heck, most blogs you read are written by artificial intelligence websites (AI) and geared towards “selling you” what AI thinks will trick you into buying something you may not need. (I PROMISE YOU that I am sitting here at this keyboard typing this myself. The opportunity to introduce our community to Chiropractic is a process I have truly enjoyed for decades.)

Today, we have to have an “organic section” in the supermarket in order to differentiate from all the diluted forms of food in the store—and many of us are willing to pay MORE for “pure” food. Does it make a difference? Well, consider the genetically engineered foods that are in nearly everything today. As a matter of fact, in one recent experiment salmon genes were spliced into corn in an attempt to create corn stalks that actually might make their own form of pesticide. Crazy? Sure is. So, you and I both try to get the best form of undiluted food we can. We have to try to keep ourselves fairly pure. And, let’s not talk about what that strange odor is when we drive through some areas. Our air is still not pure. Granted, as I kid here in Frankfort when the steel mills on Lake Michigan were running strong, there was a yellow stripe in the sky to our northeast from that pollution. So, all is NOT lost. Strides have been made to clean our environment.

    Pure Health Care?

What has this to do with Chiropractic? Fair question. Having been practicing in Frankfort longer than any other Chiropractor, times have changed—and not necessarily for the better. When a patient would move to another part of the country it was not a difficult task to find a thoroughbred Chiropractor to send them to so they may get a great Chiropractic service.

It is not just Chiropractic. Dentists (surely fine people) have shown how this new fad of diluting their service with a myriad of “extra services” works all across health care today. “We can sell you many different whitening services, if that fails, how about veneers?” Certainly, I am not attacking dentistry for their eagerness to sell more lucrative add-ons. It is very likely that they still do an exceptional job in the “pure” service of dentistry. Their community, anywhere in this country, knows what dentists do and why it is important to maintain good dental hygiene with regular care and cleanings. They would not tolerate a dentist not being excellent at the core important service dentists offer.

    Chiropractic Confusion

For decades in our office I have practiced the same way. I had the rare fortune of having the finest Chiropractors around the world as mentors. They practiced 100% PURE Chiropractic. Why? Well, unlike dentists, most people don’t have that same level of understanding of Chiropractic. They drilled into me the vital importance of keeping my practice focused and undiluted.

Today, things seem different in my profession. Those mentors? Well, sadly they are no longer with us. More importantly, the public seems confused as to what a Chiropractor does. It is not THEIR fault. Do a simple search anywhere in our country and you can’t define what a Chiropractor does by what they advertise. Is Chiropractic taping knees like an athletic trainer? What about hot packs, ultrasound, and other garden variety physical therapy? How about exercise programs? Is it nutritional supplements, shoe inserts, and pillows to sell the public? Of course not. These things are common today in too many offices.

    “I want a Superstar!”

When I am selecting a dentist, I want a superstar. I want a dentist who has mastered his or her art to the point where my teeth are kept as healthy as possible. We would want a 100% Dentist. Who would select a 65% dentist? You would not want a dentist that diluted his practice the point it barely resembled what you expect and deserve from a dentist. Why should your expectations for YOUR Chiropractor be any less demanding?

I decided to be a Chiropractor when I was student at Lincolnway. My anatomy teacher had a student Chiropractor come talk to our class. He explained Chiropractic to us and it made such perfect sense to me that before I walked out of class that day, I knew I would become a Chiropractor. Not only that but I wanted to practice an undiluted form of care as he explained to us. 100% pure Chiropractic!

    Promises made—Promises Delivered!

Proudly, I can say that I have kept that promise all these years. I have no need of extraneous “stuff” in care of my patients. When you add anything to purity, it is no longer pure. That is a simple fact. Thousands of patients from our community have sought us out over the years. None of them needed anything from me but 100% pure Chiropractic to optimize their health. And, ready for this? … Pure care is less expensive as well.

My wife Gail and I have worked tirelessly to offer a superstar service. Give us a call and find out for yourself why we don’t need to dilute our practice. We look forward to meeting you!

  • We Understand YOUR Uniqueness!

    Optimize YOUR Health

Recently a new patient asked me a question I had never been asked before. He had had several previous experiences with Chiropractic and was more discerning in making a new choice this time. He said, “Before we even start, I need to ask you if you are a “soil guy” or a “seed guy”?

Honestly I was pleasantly surprised by his question. I told him, “I am not only a “soil guy”, I have written textbooks on this subject.” We then had a frank discussion of why this is a vital point that is the very core of our Chiropractic office.

You see, the mentality of a Chiropractor colors every decision they make in your care. How we think matters! The success or failure of your health depends upon this.

    “The Germ Theory” is Born

In the mid-1800’s a student of the famous French medical educator Claude Bernard graduated and went on to become famous in his own right. In 1862 this former student, Louis Pasteur, declared that germs cause disease. This “germ theory” is something we all learned about in high school. Pasteur has become far better remembered than his former teacher, Dr. Bernard.

Pasteur declared that the seeds of disease (germs) land upon the soil (the person) and create illness. Dr. Bernard responded that the seeds (germs) blow constantly around us, but do not set into the soil unless the soil is ready to receive them. He saw that the level of SUSCEPTIBILITY was the greater issue.

    Pasteur Abandons His “Germ Theory”

On his deathbed, Pasteur stated that, Bernard was right, seed is nothing, the soil is everything. While unfortunate it took the remainder of his life to see the logic of his famed teacher, Dr. Pasteur had evolved his thinking. Today we know that indeed cutting-edge medical research has confirmed that the level of health of the person is far more important than the virulence of the “seed” (bacteria, virus, or what have you).

    Science Weighs Into the Debate

Leading medical researchers around the world are publishing a constant stream of articles to show the superiority of restoring a healthy response to the germs that are all around us, instead of battling the germs. It is scientifically the loss of health that is the problem, not the presence of germs. When you are healthy you are able to defend yourself against the germs that swirl around you each and every day.

In my second book, Sinnott’s—Textbook of Human Adaptability, I explained the results of over 1,000 research studies showing the superiority of focusing upon restoring health, over fighting disease. As a matter of fact, leading medical schools have banded together in an effort to change their educational model towards restoring health instead of their current model of fighting disease. Unfortunately, they are finding the process of change toward this more scientific model is being fought by their own medical establishment. Sadly, the need for this change is in opposition to a financial headwind that profits from the model of disease-fighting.

    Germs Seek Weakness

Dr. Rudolf Virchow, one of the great scientific minds of medicine and considered the father of cellular pathology, summed up the importance of your level of health being the deciding factor this way:

“If I could live my life over again, I would devote it to proving that germs seek their natural habitat—diseased tissues—rather than causing disease.”

    My “Mentality” of Health

Having a patient ask me this question was actually very refreshing. It is obvious that people in the Lincolnway area are realizing that there must be a new way of thinking about their own health and how best to elevate it to the highest level possible. My mentality is absolutely one of seeking the fastest and most effective route to restore optimal function in every patient.

In my textbook I mentioned I went through 150 different forms of healthcare, from medicine to physical therapy, to diet, to exercise, to massage, to yoga, and many others you have likely never heard of before. what published research studies clearly show is that NONE of them have shown the incredible increases in the level of measurable health that Chiropractic has all by itself.

My drive is to be the absolute best 100% pure Chiropractor I can be for those I care for in our community. Want to have a chat about what possibilities exist to accelerate your level of health to better prepare you for the stresses of life today? Give us a call and we will be happy to meet with you. We are located right here in my hometown of Frankfort.

  • Who the heck was Ignaz Semmelweis?

    “A gentlemen’s hands are clean!”

Semmelweis, was considered a prestigious medical doctor in the mid 1800s. He taught in the First Obstetrical Clinic of the Vienna General Hospital in Austria. The obstetrics department was divided into patients using traditional midwives and those using Semmelweis’ medical students. Interestingly, the death rate among mothers using his medical students to deliver their infants was TWICE AS HIGH as those using the midwives.

After observing his students leaving the human dissection lab, where no preservatives were being used at this time (basically slowly-rotting bodies), he realized that it may be that they were bringing something into their patient’s deliveries from the rotting flesh of the dissection room. He had his students wash their hands before attending to their obstetric deliveries, and suddenly….their death rate among mothers dropped to the low levels of the midwives deliveries.

Eureka! He had found washing the hands was a GOOD THING for doctors to start doing. Seems logical, right? Unfortunately, the hospital’s other faculty thought the idea of washing hands was ridiculous.
Dr. Semmelweis was relieved of his duties, washing hands was stopped immediately, and the death rate went right back up to twice its rate.

Sadly, it gets worse from there. Dr. Semmelweis was attacked by his peers who thought his idea of hand-washing was unscientific. They placed him in a mental institution for his continued insistence of hand-washing being a vital need for doctors. He later died while imprisoned there.

“But, we have always done it this way!”

Ideas are not often judged by merit. When the automobile was invented many complained that it would hurt the buggy whip makers. The telegraph, radio, and other things taken for granted today were once considered crazy ideas. The most common response to innovation and improvements to our lives is, “We are not going to change, because we have always done it this way!” Nothing has held back great ideas more than that response. We can all think of times we offered a suggestion to a business we worked for, or even a local home owners’ association board where the response was quite similar to the response to Semmelweis’ brilliant and now obvious decision to wash their hands to help reduce infecting their patients.

Did you know you see reference to Semmelweis today?

So, the next time you visit a restroom in your favorite restaurant and see the sign above the sink that states, “Employees must wash their hands before returning to work”, think about Dr. Semmmelweis and what he went through to get that simple sign posted.
